Thunderstorms wreak havoc

My thoughts

The rain bucketed down last night!  The thunder was as loud as you could get it and made us jump. I thought I heard hail but it was only really hard rain. The power went out for only a few minutes!!! I went to get the rechargable torch... it wasnt working even thought it was fully charged!!! Candles... where are the candles... Oh god where did I put the lighter? So now I realise that I need to have a black out kit!!! LOL Luckily, the power came back on and we could resume watching Kath and Kim! That helped Reuben not focus on the storm. He still really is not good with them. This morning I woke at 5am, thinking that I should go for a walk... well I was halted in my tracks when I opened the door to let Gypsy out. It was raining and storming. So I went back to bed and slept til 7.30am! If I didnt have uni stuff to do I would be back in bed reading... its that kind of weather!

Thousands of homes have been left without power, and commuters face lengthy delays on the way to work as storms have caused havoc across South-East Queensland.

A section of the Pacific Motorway at Loganholme has flooded and trains on the Beenleigh line were briefly interupted because of a power outage.

A Police Media spokeswoman said continuing rain was hampering efforts to clear the motorway. Two trucks were currently trying to pump water away from the motorway, she said.It is believed a blocked drain is stopping floodwaters from draining away from the road."It's a flood plane out there," she said.Significant delays were expected to continue for at least several hours, she said.Only one southbound lane of the motorway is open.

Energex spokesman Graham Metcalf said blackouts were widespread."We have had about 35,000 homes and businesses throughout South-East Queensland that lost power throughout the evening as those line of storms rolled through,'' he told the ABC."We had thousands of lightning strikes as the storms hit South-East Queensland.''Mr Metcalf said more than 100 calls for help were made to the State Emergency Service (SES) overnight.SES spokesman Eddie Bennett said most of the damage was just south of Brisbane."We had jobs in Beaudesert, Beenleigh, Logan, Gold Coast area,'' he told the ABC."Trees down, damaged roofs, water into houses.''

A coastal wind warning has also been issued for Cape Moreton to Coolangatta, with northeast to northwest winds expected at 25 to 30 knots.Three-metre waves in open waters are also expected.
