What My Handbag Says About Me!

I just did this quiz with http://www.blogthings.com/ and well the last part doesn't sound right! Me quiet and reserved!!! Only at first when I don't know anyone or am new to an environment.

You are naturally at peace.
You are a very creative person.
Your life tends to be a whirlwind, but
you always seem to pull it together.

Dog makes emergency call for owner

"Man's best friend" doesn't go far enough for Buddy - a German shepherd who remembered his training and saved his owner's life by calling the emergency dispatcher when the man had a seizure.
And it's not the first time Buddy has been there for owner Joe Stalnaker, a police officer said Sunday.
On a recording of the call to the 911 emergency number Wednesday, Buddy is heard whimpering and barking after the dispatcher answers and repeatedly asks if the caller needs help.
"Hello, this is 911. Hello ... Can you hear me? Is there somebody there you can give the phone to," says the dispatcher, Chris Trott.
Police were sent to Stalnaker's home, and after about three minutes Buddy is heard barking loudly when the officers arrived.
Scottsdale police Sergeant Mark Clark said Stalnaker spent two days in a hospital and recovered from the seizure.
"It's pretty incredible," Clark said. "Even the veteran dispatchers - they haven't heard of anything like this."
Clark said police are dispatched whenever 911 is called, but that Stalnaker's address was flagged in Scottsdale's system with a notification that a trained assistance dog could call 911 when the owner was incapacitated.
Clark said Stalnaker adopted Buddy at the age of eight weeks from Michigan-based Paws with a Cause, which trains assistance dogs, and trained him to get the phone if he began to have seizure symptoms. Buddy, now 18 months old, is able to press programmed buttons until a 911 operator is on the line, Clark said.
Clark said Buddy has made two other 911 calls when Stalnaker was having seizures.
He said Stalnaker's seizures are the result of a head injury he suffered about 10 years ago during a military training exercise.
Stalnaker was not listed in the phone book, and he did not immediately respond to a request through police for an interview.

Australia at bottom of education list

This news article this morning distresses and disappoints me!

Australia's government spending on public education is the second lowest among developed nations, a new report has found.

Federal Education Minister Julia Gillard says the new OECD Education at a Glance report highlights the need for the Rudd government's much-hyped "education revolution".
"This new report shows that Australia performs well overall in education and training but there are some long standing areas of underperformance and underinvestment," Ms Gillard said.
"Investing in education is crucial to driving productivity growth and to building a modern and prosperous economy for the future."

Australian Education Union Federal President Angelo Gavrielatos said the OECD figures were a sad indictment of the Howard government's neglect of schools and universities.
"The Rudd government must now take immediate and urgent steps to redress this critical underfunding to our schools," he said.

The report also shows experienced teachers in Australia are paid significantly less than the OECD average, but teach longer hours and more weeks than most OECD nations, Mr Gavrielatos said.

The report shows only Belgium spends less on public education institutions than Australia among the OECD countries.

In 2005, just 0.1 per cent of GDP was spent on pre-primary institutions, compared to the OECD average of 0.4 per cent, ranking Australia equal 24th out of 26 countries.

Tertiary education expenditure was only 1.1 per cent of GDP, also less than the OECD average.
But Ms Gillard pointed out there was some good news, such as that eighty per cent of 25 to 34-year-old Australians have attained at least upper secondary level education, above the OECD average.

What Your Purple Umbrella Says About You

When faced with adversity, you remain together and graceful. You are very balanced, and it's hard for you to let yourself get too down. You are brainy and philosophical. It's hard for you to lose your broad perspective on life. You accept things as they are. You don't try to change anything that can't be changed. On a rainy day: you should spend the day reading

At Last the Truth...

I love this photo... how many times have I actually thought this!!!

Who was I in a past life?

You were Teddy Roosevelt in your past life!

Of all of your past lives, old Teddy was your most prominent. If your dreams are ever filled with faint visions of conquests, horesback riding, spelunking, hunting, cigars, governing, masses of people, and quiet studying, these are glimpses into a world once occupied by your 'vessel'. Cherish your past life and invigorate your current one knowing that you embody greatness in all that you do.

I have never dreamed of any of these... what the???!!! I just took this quiz on FACEBOOK... um I won't take too much to heart!!!

At home, reading for the literature review!

So... I'm home, reading articles for the literature review! I really dislike literature reviews! There are only 4 weeks to go to finish uni forever!!! I can't believe it's almost over! Does it feel like four years since I first walked up the path to my first lecture? No! It does feel like it was yesterday but now four years on, I do feel a little older and a little more tired. I don't feel the excitement I felt back then... everything, every class was an adventure! Maybe the feeling that I have been feeling is not "over it" but sadness. I hadn't thought about feeling sad but that could be it. Sad that I won't see the people I have bonded with at uni. Sad that I won't be in my little uni bubble anymore. It's really scary thinking about having a class of my own but its also so exciting!

There you go... sad and excited... yes I am a GEMINI!!!

Shock Loss of Australian Actor

This is so sad!!!
All Saints actor Mark Priestley has been found dead.
It is believed the 32-year-old killed himself after jumping off a building in Sydney's CBD.
Police confirmed the body of a 32-year-old man had been found on the awning of a building in Market Street late yesterday afternoon. Priestley was reportedly suffering from depression. Priestley played male nurse Dan Goldman in Seven's popular hospital series. Click to see photos of Priestley

You See the World Through Yellow Colored Glasses

You live your life with optimism. You remain happy through the bad times, and your outlook remains bright.
You judge all interactions through the lens of hope. You try to see the best in people, and you give them the benefit of the doubt.

You face challenges with a spirit of adventure. Things are what they are, so you might as well make the best of them.
You see love as the utmost expression of personal joy. You tend to be attracted to lively, friendly people.

At your worst, you are a bit petty and jealous. You want to be everyone's shining star.
You are happiest when you're daydreaming or thinking up fresh ideas.

Uni today!

Another fabulous day at uni! We had our Ethics class at 10 through to 12. What a joy that way! NOT!!! I waited around for our lecture at 2pm only to find out the lecturer didnt turn up. He has since appologized and promised chocolates for all who come next week! He actually thought the class was at 3pm. This is the 2nd time this week that a person has forgotten an appointment and it wasn't me!!! Gotta love it hey! Picked Reuben up and now Im sitting on my bed posting to my blog. Ethics just drains my brain!!! You think they would give us an easy course or at least enjoyable for our last semester at uni!!! But no... they have to give us the hardest and least enjoyable one!!! One good thing though that came out of this afternoon is that while we were all sitting around waiting we discussed the exam at the Nathan campus. We all thought it is crap that we have to go up to Nathan... a campus we have never been to before. We all went to the Education admin, Cath, and explained to her about it being up there. By the time I got home there was a notice that the venue had been changed for Logan students. Sometimes it pays to complain!

I won!

I entered Angela Sargeant's "Email me a stamping question" competition and I won! I won a Stampin' Up! stamp set called Birthday Whimsey stamp set.

Photobucket

I really wanted to buy this set when it came out but I was so busy with uni that the sale came and went before I knew it.

Thanks Angela!!! You can find Angela's site here...

I also did a google search. There are so many different ways to use this set. I cant wait to get some spare time after my internship to have a play!

EKKA - a must go experience... or is it?

Feeling like a fantastic wait in a long slow moving queue?
Want to to get shoved by complete strangers who don't even say sorry?
Sick of not getting your ankles knocked by prams?
Love eating expensive crap fast food?
Do you want to spend a heap of cash and have nothing to show for it at the end of your day?
If you answered yes to any of these... then perhaps its time to visit the EKKA!!!
Brad and I went yesterday to Brisbane's yearly "show". I saw rides there that scared the bejeebers out of me, like the Slingshot that was only $30, Im not sure if that was per person or double. All I know is that I don't enough trust in strangers to hoist me into the air like that and to pay for it as well... no thanks!!!
We went on the chair lift and the enclosed Ferris Wheel (not in the picture). Brad said, "We don't go on the fastest rides but the highest rides!" Just looking at the fast ones was making feel queezie!!!
By lunch times the crowds were huge and we could barely walk in the alleys. The showbag pavillion was not just packed out but filled wall to wall with people. Brad and I went to the closest one and bought Reuben a bag and that was a enough for me. It has got to illegal to have that many people in a building! I kept thinking if there was a problem, we would all be goners and crushed to death!
We went and saw the show dog pavillion. There were little mini daschunds, greyhounds and golden retrievers being shown. There were a couple of other breeds there that I had never heard of before. We went to the cat pavillion also. We saw a little sphix kitten. At first I thought yuk but then the owner had one out and I got to pet it. It was so soft and has a very thin layer of hair. It was such a little darling. It looks bat like almost!
By 2.30 we had had enough and decided to go home... but then there was the 15-20 minute walk back to the car. It was good to go as I haven't been since we moved here in 1993 (14 years) but I was glad to go home too. I probably don't need to go for another 14 years now!
All in all, it was a fun day out with my man, Brad. It was our first Ekka together and it certainly won't be our last... just give me 12 months to get over it! LOL

First Day for Last Semester

I started back at uni today. Its my last semester! My questions is, why am I not that excited? Maybe its because I will be thrust out of a comfort zone that I have known for 4 years (almost). Thrust into the wilds of unknown forest of Education where some graduates get eaten alive!

This semester is all about lasts... I bought my last parking permit and my last text book! There are many more lasts to come yet... last library book borrowed, last late fee paid (LOL), and my last trip in and out of uni as a student!

What is a WIDGET?

I have been wondering what this really is... on my laptop its a clock (or so my son says!). I thought I should look it up and find out for myself.

Here it is from Wikipedia... Im not sure if this really helps though...

Widget may refer to:
Widget (economics), a placeholder name for an object or, more specifically, a mechanical or other manufactured device
Widget (beer), a coil-like device placed in the bottom of cans and bottles of beer to aid in the generation of froth
Widget (comics), a character in Marvel Comics
Widget (TV series), a 1990s animated television series
nickname of the New York World Journal Tribune, a defunct newspaper
In computing, the term has become frequently used to refer to objects on a computer screen the user interacts with:
GUI widget, a component of a graphical user interface with which a user interacts
Widget toolkit, a software library containing a collection of GUI widgets that collaborate when used in the construction of applications
Web widget, a physically-inspired applet on the web
Widget engine, a software system for running applets on the web, desktop or mobile phone

Get Smart - My Review

Loved this movie! It didnt try to be the original. It took us back to before Max became an agent and his meeting 99. It was so much better than I thought it could be. I hoped they would do Get Smart proud and they have. Too many times I have gone to watch a remake only to be totally disappointed! Get Smart was not at all disappointing!!!

Mamma Mia! The Movie Trailer (2008) - Great Quality!

I love this movie!!! I love the songs!!! Who could have known over 30 years ago... ABBA would live on into a movie!!!

Mamma Mia - my review

Yesterday, Tuesday 15th I went and saw this movie with Janet Roff, my uni mate. At first, I didnt think we were going to even meet up. A digger on the Gold Coast dug up an Optus cable and severed it. All Optus and 3 mobiles were affected!!! Janet walked around and I walk around hoping we would find each other... and we did!!! Phew that was so lucky!

This was a great feel good movie! For some reason I didnt expect that there would be singing right through the movie... I loved it! I wanted to get up and dance around especially when Dancing Queen was playing! Meryl Streep was excellent!!! However, Pierce Brosnan cant sing for anything!!! All in all, it was an excellent movie!!! I give it 8/10 and 10/10 for the ABBA music!!!!
This is a movie I will be adding to my dvd collection!
ABBA rocks!!!

A scene singing Dancing Queen... they then romp off to the pier.

Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia! the movie
Pierce... please dont sing again!!!
This is another cover I have found.

Rob Thomas - Now Comes The Night (studio)

A truly beautiful song! Its really worth the time listening to. It was played at a Serbian 1 year memorial I recently went to. Brad's best friend's sister, Alex was being prayed for and remembered. I didnt know Alex, but I wish I had. From what I have been told about Alex, I think the world has been robbed of an awesome and loving woman! She was in her 40s, taken way too early! She died about a month before Brad and I met. Alex you will not be alone. Alex you will not be forgotten.

Penny Black stamps to die for!

I so want these Penny Black stamps!!!

What I wanted to be when I grew up...

... a vet!!! Yes, a vet. It wasnt until in year 8 when I was about 13 or 14, someone told me that you had to be in the top 5% to get into uni to be a vet. My dream was dashed, crushed, burnt and up in smoke. Why did I believe them, they may have been right but I didnt even investigate the statement.

The Kim of today would have said, "well, I'm going to check that out!!!" The other thing that is sad is that I didnt believe in myself... I didnt believe that I could apply myself and get there! Now that is sad.

It has taken me 20 years to learn to believe in myself. I had to go through many relationship break ups, an abusive marriage, a difficult up brining and the loss of a child to find myself, to believe in myself... to know myself! I still have such a long way to go... but Im getting there! I graduate at the end of the year. I will be a teacher! Not just a teacher, a woman who will inspire young people to never stop dreaming! To never stop believing in themselves. To never give up!

Anton is not happy!

Anton was put outside yesterday... this is where he decided to sleep. He wouldn't acknowledge me at all when I spoke to him. He was not happy!

I couldnt resist taking a photo of him. Thanks Anton!

Here is a saying that is so true... Dogs have masters, cats have staff!!!

Gyppy in July

Gypsy wouldnt go in her basket until I put an old jumper in it. Now when Im out here in the loungeroom, she is in her basket. She looks so adorable in this photo.

I took about 10 photos to get these two photos. She kept moving just when I thought it was a great photo but we finally got there! I was sitting on a step below her and all she wanted to do was sit one my lap!

I love seeing her with her ears up. I cant believe Gyppy is 9 now but when we go for walks she doesnt want to go too far, she is like her mum, built for comfort not for distance (speed). I cant believe how white she is getting around her face. She is the sweetest little dog. The older she gets the more her darling personality comes through. I was so proud of her the other day. While out for a walk 3 children came past and she didnt get scared, she just kept walking with her ears and tail up! I guess she is a bit like a human, the older we get the more confident we are in our skin (fur)!!!

New PJs

I just bought these Jarmies today! I had to... they are purple and the little yellow bees are just so cute! What a bargain at Coles... only $9.99!!!

ABBA - Tiger

This song reminds me of an eight year old acting this song out. I would play this song on our little record player, put my long pink dress on and bunch it up in the back to look like a tiger's tail. I would watch myself dancing in the TV's reflection and pretend to be the TIGER. I loved this ABBA song!

Birthday in June means no swimming!

I just saw a scrapbook layout about a birthday swim... it made me realise that having a birthday swim is something that I have never done and will most likely never ever do... ! June is way too cold for me even here in sunny Queensland! :-(
The picture features a beach in Western Australia, the island is Rottnest Island.

Serenaded by Rens

Krystyl wanted to say some words, some beautiful words... and when she finished, Rens serenaded me with a beautiful song. He has such an amazing voice!!! What a priveledge!!!

More 40th pics

How did Krystyl ever begin to like beer? I absolutely hate it... in every way! She loves it!!!

Alison and Krystyl catching up! Alison was working hard getting all the food organised.

Above... Krystyl, Gail and Doris enjoying a chat... Krystyl was disappointed when Gail told her she wouldnt be having any "shots"! Krystyl and Gail had a great time at a cocktail Tupperware party we had at Katrina's in 2007. Since then, Krystyl has admired Gail for her drinking abilities! (Krystyl still calls Gail, Mrs Oatley... a hangover from Gail being a teacher aide and Krystyl being a student at the same school.) Its funny to hear Krystyl say "Hey Miss Oatley, have a shot with me mate!"

Above: What are we doing??? Thats a good question... Jess said... put your leg up... so I did... I didnt work!!! LOL I certainly am not J-Lo!!! LOL

A Purple 40th!!!

Above... Krystyl and I. The two birthday girls!!! We shared the night... it was actually her 21st birthday!!! and it was the only saturday that Allison could do my birthday party for me. Krystyl had a few of her friends over too and then off later to the city for more exciting time!!! LOL Don't we look cool in our sunnies!!! So stylish... so happening!!! Well one of us does!!!

Just a little purple here for my 40th!!! I love how Brad got into wearing purple too... and loved it as much as I did! Thanks Brad, you're the man!!!.... my man!!!

Gypsy's Weekend Morning Routine!!! So Spoilt!!!

The last few months, Gypsy has developed a routine...

she wants to be with her pack having a cup of tea. She either sits on Brad's lap or mine and pleads with her deep dark black eyes to give her some tea (or coffee), just like her humans.

She is even more intense when there is an arrowroot mentioned!

She loves her arrowroot biscuits dunked... they MUST be dunked!

The 3 B's

I love this card being made. The music is fantastic too. I love how there is no words so you get to concentrate on the card being made!
Enjoy!

New Series... OZ

This is the next series that I'm interested in watching. I spotted it at JB Hi Fi when Brad and I were in there the other day. It looks interesting and with the people who created it and the actors assembled it should be awesome to watch!

From left to right: Ryan O'Reily, Vernon Schillinger, Miguel Alvarez, Tobias Beecher, Kareem Saïd. And in the front, Augustus Hill.

Oz is an American television drama series created by Tom Fontana, who also wrote or co-wrote all of the series' 56 episodes. It was the first one-hour dramatic television series to be produced by HBO. It aired for six seasons between 1997 and 2003.

Oz is the nickname for the Oswald State Correctional Facility, a maximum-security prison of undisclosed location. Many of the plot arcs are set in Emerald City ("Em City"), an experimental unit of the prison in which the unit manager attempts to emphasize rehabilitation and learning responsibility during incarceration. Emerald City is a controlled environment where there are a limited number of members of each racial and social group.

The large ensemble cast included Rita Moreno, Ernie Hudson, Terry Kinney and Betty Buckley; later Law & Order stars Kathryn Erbe, Christopher Meloni, B. D. Wong, J. K. Simmons, Dean Winters and Kirk Acevedo; Lost stars Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Harold Perrineau Jr.; Dexter stars Erik King, David Zayas, and Lauren Vélez.; The Sopranos Edie Falco. Many of the actors from Oz have appeared as guest stars on The Wire, Homicide: Life on the Street, The Black Donnellys, New York Undercover, 24, Lost, the TV series Dexter, and in the various Law & Order series.

The Shield - its over!

shield Vic Mackey is one of the ...

Im sad... I've watched the last episode in the 6th season (thanks to Alison and her recent overseas trip to Thailand). I dont want it to be over!!! I love the character Vic Mackee!!! He's mean, scary, underhanded but loves his family and in his own way is just!

No Gravy!!! What the...!!!!

So... we went to Hogs Breath last night for dinner for Krystyl's 21st birthday. The night was great with Krystyl loud as ever and laughing and making jokes being her normal outrageous self... Im not sure where she gets that from... grin ;-)

It was time to order... I ordered the steak with the diane sauce... I ordered the sauce because I had had it up at Mooloolaba and it DIDN'T have cream in it! Hog's Breath well they are unique... all their sauces have cream in them... and they dont have gravy... WHY??? Well... its because all the sauces come prepackaged!!! Can you believe it!!! NO GRAVY!!! I had to change my order... and the waitress said, if you change it you will have to wait 10 mins while I serve others... I sat there with my mouth open! I asked to see the Manager who wasnt anymore helpful in the gravy issue but did put my order in straight away!!!  I have to say... Hogs Breath let me down big time and I wouldnt be going back soon, if ever!!! I even took a cake and they didnt bring it out when I asked they bought out a little browning slice with icecream... which they were going to charge $7.00 for... now that was a huge rip off!!! They put a beer on Katrina's bill which she didnt even order. They finally bought out the cake... minus the strawberries... Brad went and sorted that out... oh they had lost one of the punnets!!! However, they did replace it with their own strawberries.

HOG'S BREATH... 2 out of 10 and a big thumbs down!!!! Give me Lone Star any day!!!
